Data Governance

Data governance is the framework of policies, roles, and controls that determines how an organization's data is defined, accessed, protected, and used. It answers who owns a dataset, who may see it, how quality is maintained, and how usage is audited - the foundation that regulatory compliance and trustworthy analytics both rest on.

AI turns data governance into a runtime problem. When a model or agent can read across systems and send data to a third party in a single prompt, static catalogs and periodic access reviews are no longer enough; the rules have to be enforced on each request.
