The enterprise shift in which AI cost, capacity, and risk are all denominated in tokens - making token consumption a first-class thing to budget, optimize, and govern.
As enterprises move AI from pilots into production, tokens become the currency of the stack. Budgets are set in tokens, provider capacity is allocated in tokens per minute, and the unit economics of every feature come down to how many tokens it consumes. This is the token economy: a world where the token is the shared denominator for cost, throughput, and increasingly risk.
The shift changes who cares about tokens. What was once a developer detail becomes a finance line item, a capacity-planning input, and a governance surface - because every token also carries data across a boundary. Managing the token economy means seeing consumption clearly (who is consuming, on which model, and where it goes) and acting on it, not just paying the invoice after the fact.
